Pierre Moerlin the drummer from the Prog band Gong has died. He was an interesting drummer (with fast hands, odd-time fluidity) but generally pretty unknown in the states. He was equal to or better than many of his contemporaries in 70's Prog Rock. If you're not familiar with him, check out some of their music; you'll be pleasantly surprised.

that's too bad, when i was at MI, a few Gong tunes were used for style and analysis class.

Oh no, not another one!
I saw him with Gong at Reading, more years ago than I'm prepared to say. And then he played live with Mike Oldfield, and brought fantastic, almost fusion-y freshness to Tubular Bells in that setting.

Damn. I love Gong - amazing stuff.
He was the one who did the Mike Oldfield "Exposed" tour. Amazing guy.
